Do deer eat bridalwreath spirea?

Seldom. Rutgers rates Spiraea prunifolia Seldom Severely Damaged, B, Iowa State lists it in the same tier, and NC State's line is "It is deer and somewhat drought tolerant." Of the three spireas in the encyclopedia it is the one NC State is least worried about; the Japanese and Anthony Waterer spireas carry a warning that it does not.

Where it grows

NC State: zones 5a to 8b, 4 to 8 feet, full sun or partial shade, white flowers in spring before the leaves. "This is an extremely durable shrub with no known serious insect or disease problems," with the rose-family caveat that leaf spot, fire blight, mildew, aphids and scale can visit.

Rarely needed. A young shrub in its first winter is all within reach and a wire ring for one season costs less than the plant.

If it is browsed

It flowers on old wood, so a winter browse takes that spring's flowers on the eaten stems and nothing else. The arching stems regrow from the base, and a shrub cut to the ground, by a deer or a saw, is back to size in three seasons.
