About Basket of Gold
Sheets of yellow over grey foliage in spring, ideal spilling over a wall, and reliably left alone by deer. Sharp drainage is not optional. It rots in wet clay, and it is happiest in the crevices of a dry wall or a gravel bed where nothing sits around the crown. Shear it back by a third immediately after flowering. Skip that and it goes woody and open in the centre within two seasons, and unlike a herbaceous perennial it does not come back from the base once bare. It is short-lived even when treated well, so let a little seed drop. Full sun, poor soil, no feeding.
